PolyPak America is a manufacturer and printer of polythelene products who are implementing green business practices into their business. Their main products are plastic mailing envelopes, bags and plastic film for agriculture and plastic packaging.

One might question about the disposability of plastic products, however, you will have to admit that plastic products are still irreplaceable for a lot of uses. Here is where PolyPak Amrica is so good. They are creating plastic products (mailing envelopes, courier bags and poly films) that are recyclable, and exploring new ideas to make them more effective in terms of recyclability.

PolyPak America’s Green Initiatives:

Plant a Tree – After every purchase, Polypak asks its customers whether they would like to donate $2 to plant a tree in any of four plantation projects in:

  • Nkor Watershed Regeneration, Cameroon, Africa
  • Kirtland’s Warbler Habitat Creation, Michigan
  • Los Padres Conifer Forests Restoration, California
  • Chiginagak Volcano Valley, Alaska Native Tree Restoration Project, Alaska

For evey $2 donated, PolyPak would plant a tree on your behalf in any of the four projects. Their partner in this project is the American Forests

Carbon Neutral – PolyPak has partnered with the CarbonFund.org to provide CarbonFree® Certified products to their clients. In addition, the process also includes assessment of POlyPak’s CO2 emissions, and establishing an structure to reduce emissions to net zero through internal and external reductions.

PolyPak also helps their clients to obtain a CarbonFree® product certification by working with Carbonfund.org.

Benefits of a Certified Carbon Free Product

EPR Accreditation – The EPR programhelps plastic producers reduce their contribution towards air and waterway polution.

Recycled Content – PolyPak introduces between 50%- 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic to their products.

Air Emissions – PolyPak Americais ranked as the BACT (Best Available Control Technology) by the SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District – www.aqmd.gov).

Heavy Metal Free Additives – All color additives used are organic.

Pellet Containment – They have partnered with Operation Clean Sweep to make sure no pellet finds their way into local waters.

    There are many many cities that are banning plastic bags. But I wonder how many of those cities use plastic bags with post consumer recycled content.

    It’s odd especially considering that paper bags take more resources to produce.
